Nature: Little Birds

Photographing and watching garden birds is one of my favourite things to do. This gallery includes images from my Glasgow garden as well as country parks and my new home in the Scottish Highlands.

A few of these photographs are available world-wide as high-quality A6 greeting cards via Etsy, and all as prints/other gifts by clicking the "Buy Now" option.

  • House sparrow on a frosty morning

House sparrow on a frosty morning

I confess I love the photo, I could have chosen one with the sparrow facing forwards, but the fanned tail and gorgeous plumage of the wings shows the bird off beautifully.

I have many many birds visiting my Highland garden but I do find the blue tits to be the most photogenic.

  • Blue Tit in Beech Tree

    Blue Tit in Beech Tree

I think I like wide-angle images best of all, and I like the simplicity of this one photographed in my local wood in April when the beech trees were clinging on to a few of the old leaves whilst the buds appeared with the new.

  • Juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker

    Juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker

I've been enjoying numerous woodpecker sightings at my woodland hide and it was especially lovely when the fledgling appeared in June. On this occasion it was on its own and was trying to figure out how to feed itself - wonderful to watch!
