  • House sparrow on a frosty morning

House sparrow on a frosty morning

I confess I love the photo, I could have chosen one with the sparrow facing forwards, but the fanned tail and gorgeous plumage of the wings shows the bird off beautifully.

  • Mountain Hare Leveret in Heather

    Mountain Hare Leveret in Heather

Mountain hare (lepus timidus) leveret that I've named "Speedy" (because he outran a dog who decided to chase him), grazing on the summer foliage on the hillside. A wonderful little hare, it's been a joy following him these past few weeks.

  • Red Squirrel

    Red Squirrel

Photographed at RSPB Loch Leven in January 2019.

  • Crested Tit, Black Isle

    Crested Tit, Black Isle

Quite possibly my favourite of all the many crestie images I've taken!

  • Mountain hare (lepus timidus)

    Mountain hare (lepus timidus)

  • Red Squirrel/Coal Tit stand-off, Cairngorms

    Red Squirrel/Coal Tit stand-off, Cairngorms

The coal and great tits were stealing all the nuts I put out for the squirrels!

  • Rabbit

    Rabbit

This was one of the first photographs I took with the Tamron 150-600mm lens. It was a balmy evening, so I popped down to my local park and came across a few rabbits grazing. This one picked up the feather and looked straight at me - it's my favourite photograph of 2016!

  • And stretch...

    And stretch...

This hare would leave its form for a few minutes to stretch and wander around before returning to while away the hours.

  • Red Squirrel, Cairngorms

    Red Squirrel, Cairngorms

    Red squirrel in the snow.

  • Red Squirrel in the Snow

    Red Squirrel in the Snow

Local red squirrels in the snow, January 2021

  • Courting Hares

    Courting Hares

These two snuggled together before a little fighting and then they mated. The one on the right is "Fidget", the one on the left possibly "Luigi".

  • Red Squirrel, Cairngorms

    Red Squirrel, Cairngorms

Red squirrel photographed near Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands, August 2019

  • Mum and Kit

    Mum and Kit

Female pine marten with one of her 3 kits, photographed at the Black Isle Nature Photography Hide, June 2020.

  • Pine Marten Kit

    Pine Marten Kit

Pine marten kit (well on the way to adulthood), photographed in September 2020 in daylight at the Black Isle Nature Photography site.

  • Red Squirrel Kitten

    Red Squirrel Kitten

This is Marty, one of the two kittens seen at my hide in June 2020. He's the less confident of the pair and often sits high up the tree posing beautifully rather than coming down for some nuts.

  • Sitting Pretty

    Sitting Pretty

Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) in snow, posing on top of a tree root. Feb. 2020

  • Running

    Running

This hare left its form to have a stretch then started to run, almost towards me, however it then stopped and returned to its form. Strange behaviour, but great!!

  • Snow bunting

    Snow bunting

I was delighted to find the snow buntings at the Cairngorm Mountain carpark in March after a day of heavy snow, and (amazingly) no wind!

  • Mountain hare (lepus timidus)

    Mountain hare (lepus timidus)

  • Mountain Hare Leveret Grooming

    Mountain Hare Leveret Grooming

This mountain hare (Lepus timidus) is cleaning its back paw by licking it. Mountain hare (lepus timidus) leveret who has just cleaned his back paw sticking his tongue out and looking cheeky! This is a hare I know as Goldie due to the fact its form is carpeted in little golden flowers. A fab hare, bags of personality.
