"Fantastic day Karen Miller Photography, thank you. Dolphins were fantastic followed by an afternoon photographing dragon flies! Loved both but must say your red squirrels are very hard to beat 💓 I’ve learnt so much in the last two & a half days, can’t wait to get back for another workshop."   Trish, August 2022, 2.5 day workshop client.

Join me for one or more days wildlife guiding in the Scottish Highlands. There are so many incredible photographic opportunities and subjects in the Highlands which vary throughout the seasons.  I'll use my local knowledge to guide you to  the best experiences dependent on your wishes, the weather and the time of year.

Suitable for all levels of photographers.  I can give as much, or as little tuition and guidance as you wish.  Wildlife photography is as much about loving nature and the creatures we share our planet with as it is about getting the photograph.  I don't believe in "tick the box" photography, preferring to spend quality time in each location, showing how observing your subject can lead to a better understanding of the animal which results in better images. Because these workshops are for small groups (where clients all book together) I can be completely flexible as to how long we spend anywhere and how many species we photograph. For example if you wanted 2 mornings of red squirrels that would be perfectly fine and I could take you to two different locations.

Depending on the season there are a wide variety of species to photograph in the Highlands, for example:

All year: red squirrels, woodland birds, red grouse, red kites

Winter: mountain hares, crested tits, red deer, snow bunting, waders

Summer: osprey, bottlenose dolphins, badger, warblers, wood ants, dragonflies, pine marten, common (harbour) seals, butterflies

You can either request specific species which I'll do my best to take you to, or I can put together a tour featuring those that are around at the time of year you wish to book.

If you are looking for accommodation I have a rental cabin The Drey Inchberry which sleeps two people (there are 2 European single beds which combine to a super king).  Guests receive 10% off the price of a workshop.

If you are considering visiting in winter and also wish accommodation I have a winter wildlife residential package available.

There will be some walking required but please let me know at time of booking what your fitness level is and if there are things you are unable to do so that I can tailor the day(s) to suit.

A DSLR / Mirrorless camera is recommended although a bridge camera would be ok too.  A long lens with a maximum focal distance of at least 400mm, and if you have them a fast lens (ie 70-200 f2.8) and macro.  Tripod/monopod or beanbag is a personal choice.

Warm waterproof clothing, even in summer as we are often in woodland or exposed areas.

Walking boots and/or wellies.

In winter hand warmers / heated clothing is recommended as we often sit in one spot for extended periods.

Insect repellent and sun cream in summer.

Food and drink.

We will meet at an agreed location depending on what we are doing.  Due to increased fuel prices I can only go off route for a max of 10 miles to collect/drop off as part of the price below.  Any further than that will have to incur an extra charge.
